How to Plan a Family Trip with a Baby and Toddler Using ChatGPT

Discover how to use AI to lighten the mental load of planning travel with young kids. A practical guide for moms using ChatGPT to organize baby gear rentals, itineraries, and low-stress activities.
on our first long flight trip to San Diego

A step-by-step guide to offloading the mental load (just a little).

If you are a mom (not to generalize, but let’s go ahead and generalize here) planning a trip with the little ones … we know that you’ll be staying up in the wee-hours post-work and post- house work to start the mental load planning. Booking the hotel is step 0. It’s feeding schedules, naps, car seats, entertainment, snacks, naps again, and a stroller that somehow fits in the trunk. And … the unknowns mixed in with the new environment. This is the stuff we carry as moms … before we even step out the door.

As I was planning for a recent trip to Miami, I handed some of that planning over to ChatGPT. It took me about 15 minutes and walaaa – a fully researched and fleshed out schedule with resources while waiting between my meetings.

Here’s a simple how-to guide so you can do the same so you are not burning the midnight candle planning for days after your kids are down for the night.

Moms, let’s let AI take on this invisible load. We got enough on our plates.

Step 1: Decide How You Want to Use AI

Use AI as Your Travel Co-Planner (Especially for Moms Who Are Tired of Doing It All)

You can approach this in two ways:

Option A: You already use AI like ChatGPT or Gemini regularly

Start your session by giving it context. Copy and paste this:

PROMPT:
“I’m planning a family trip to [CITY] from [DATES]. I’ll be traveling with my [AGE] year-old and [AGE] month-old baby. We’re staying at [HOTEL/NEIGHBORHOOD] and I’ll have a rental car (willing to drive up to [XX] minutes). I want to keep things low-key—ideally one activity per day and flexible time to relax. Can you help me find baby gear rental options, nearby grocery stores, and family-friendly activities?”

Option B: You’re new to using AI

If you don’t have a tool yet, start with ChatGPT, Gemini (by Google), or Perplexity. You don’t need to know special terms. Just type like you’re texting a helpful assistant. Here’s a copy/paste prompt to begin:

PROMPT:
“Can you help me plan a family trip with a toddler and baby? I’m going to [CITY] from [DATES], staying at [HOTEL/NEIGHBORHOOD]. I’ll have a rental car and want kid-friendly, low-key activities that don’t require more than [XX] minutes of driving. I’ll also be cooking some meals, so I need grocery store recommendations and baby gear rental nearby.”

Step 2: Ask for Research Help

Research Baby Gear and Family-Friendly Spots with Your AI Trip Planner

Tell it what you need help researching so you can stop digging through tabs.

Try:
• What are the best baby gear rental companies in [city]?
• Where can I rent a crib, stroller, high chair, or toys?
• What are the top toddler-friendly activities within 30 minutes?
• Where’s the closest grocery store or delivery service near [hotel]?

Step 3: Build Your Itinerary Based on Your Energy

Create a Flexible Itinerary for Traveling with a Baby and Toddler

Now that you’ve got options, it’s time to structure your days.

PROMPT:
“Can you help me create a 6-day itinerary? I’d like one simple activity per day (preferably in the morning), with time in the afternoon for naps or chill time at the hotel. Please keep driving to under [XX] minutes. Don’t forget that I prefer to do things like [add activities that you enjoy here]. Make this plan realistic for me lugging two children under 3.”

ChatGPT will draft something like (but more detailed to your liking):

  • Friday: Settle in, hotel pool afternoon
  • Saturday: Morning at a shaded park with a toddler play area
  • Sunday: Beach picnic with umbrella rental, nap midday
  • Monday–Thursday: One short outing per day (ex: museum, aquarium, splash pad)

Step 4: Ask for Logistics That Save You Later

Don’t Forget the Mom Hacks…Let AI Help with Logistics Too

PROMPTS:
– What’s the nearest pediatric urgent care or walk-in clinic?
– Are there any toddler-friendly restaurants with outdoor seating?
– What’s the weather typically like in [MONTH] in [CITY]?

These little things save you from scrambling later.

Step 5: Save and Edit

Copy the itinerary into your notes, Google Doc, or wherever you plan. Star the must-dos. Leave space to skip something if naps go sideways as we know they will.

Let’s Carry Less

We’re not meant to do it all. If AI can help us plan a trip, order the right crib, and map out an easy day? Let it. This is one way we lighten the load without lowering the bar.

Where are you headed next? Tell us how you’re using AI to help you give you a little lift with your invisible load.
